MANILA, Philippines – Who’s bread-y for some bread? The TiNOpay Cart, a local initiative dedicated to sharing fresh, healthy, and free bread with local communities, is now making its rounds around Makati City!

This new mobile bread cart helmed by I’M Hotel and Oakwood’s management distributes free malunggay (moringa) pandesal to residents in Poblacion and nearby areas, in an effort to promote the use of indigenous, nutrient-rich ingredients like moringa, known to help boost immunity, aid digestion, and support heart health.

The name “TiNOpay” is a witty take on the Filipino word “tinapay” (bread), playing on the phrase “no pay.” Initially baking 100 pieces of moringa-enriched pandesal per day, the initiative has since expanded production to 300 to 500 pieces daily in response to increasing demand.

The TiNOpay Cart goes around the area from 12 pm to 4 pm, or until supplies run out, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. So far, mostly employees and residents from the nearby communities line up to claim the freshly-baked, free pandesal — all I’M Hotel requests is to follow them on social media and share their pandesal experience on social media.

I’M Hotel told Rappler that they decided to start this hospitality initiative to align with the Department of Tourism’s campaign to promote Philippine tourism. “We wanted to highlight Filipino culture and the tradition of offering pandesal, as part of hospitality,” I’M Hotel said. “It’s also a way to challenge the usual norms in the industry.”
As demand steadily increases, the TiNOpay Cart aims to spread the joy of free bread to even more Makati neighborhoods nearby. – with reports by Bea Gatmaytan/Rappler.com
