Following the viral video, the MMDA has started prohibiting its employees and private individuals from vlogging, recording, or posting videos of its operations
MANILA, Philippines – Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will retain Gabriel Go as head of its Special Operations Group-Strike Force, despite recent scrutiny over a viral video showing him scolding a police officer for illegal parking.
The MMDA said on Monday, April 7, that Go will undergo a five-day training mentorship coaching on traffic management, focusing on leadership, courtesy, and discipline and with special attention on stress and anger management.
MMDA chairman Don Artes said that the training is “not a form of punishment, but more for his self-improvement.”
The MMDA’s Legal and Legislative Affairs Staff also gave Go a warning for “simple discourtesy with stern warning that the commission of the same in the future will be dealt with more severely.”
In light of the recent incident, the MMDA reminded its traffic enforcers to stay calm and patient when faced with unnecessary arguments from traffic violators, to handle the situation politely, and to always act professionally while on duty.
Go recently apologized to Quezon City Police Captain Erik Felipe, who owned one of the motorcycles that were illegally parked in front of the local police station during a road clearing operation in Barangay Teachers Village East.
“I sincerely apologize to you. It was not my intention for such an unfortunate incident and interaction to occur,” Go said in a press conference at the Department of the Interior and Local Government-National Police Commission building on Thursday, April 3.
Despite his apology, Felipe on the same day filed a cyber libel complaint against Go and the blogger who posted the video.
