MANILA, Philippines – P-pop groups SB19 and BINI promised to continue cultivating Filipino music on the international stage as they received the “Voices of Asia” award from Billboard Korea during the “K Power 100” event on Tuesday, August 27.
Both acts were chosen by Billboard Philippines to receive the award. It is meant to “honor their groundbreaking contributions to Filipino music and their unwavering championing of P-pop on the global stage.”
SB19 and BINI were the only Filipino artists to grace the event, which was primarily attended by K-pop acts, including EXO-CBX, VIVIZ, STAYC, THE BOYZ, Kep1er, and GOT7’s BamBam.
During the event, BINI performed their back-to-back hits “Pantropiko” and “Cherry on Top” while SB19 took the stage with their global sensation “Gento.”
In their respective speeches, both BINI and SB19 expressed their gratitude to their supporters and shared how honored they are to be part of the event.
“Being here tonight with so many talented artists inspire us to keep pushing boundaries and share our music with the world. This award reminds us that anything is possible with hard work and dedication,” BINI said.
The eight-piece act also gave a shoutout to their fellow artists, saying they “admire and respect” them, including fellow P-pop group SB19 who they said inspired them.
SB19 also mentioned BINI in their speech, saying: “We are proud of you. We’ve been making waves right now.”
The quintet also emphasized Filipino artistry in their speech: “This award belongs not just to us, but to the entire P-pop movement, OPM, and of course, everyone sharing Filipino creativity across Asia and the world.”
“To every Filipino artist, creative, and to the music legends before us: you inspire us so much to grow and to excel without losing heart,” SB19 said. “This award represents the P-pop community’s mission and that is to bring Filipino artistry to the global stage, starting right here in Asia.”
