MANILA, Philippines – The Ramon Magsaysay Foundation honors this year’s awardees on Saturday, August 31.
In a press statement, RMAF Chairperson Cheche Lazaro said: “As we celebrate the 117th birth anniversary of President Ramon Magsaysay, we are reminded of his profound impact on Asia and the world. The 2024 Ramon Magsaysay Laureates embody the same spirit of selfless service and transformative leadership, making significant contributions to their respective communities and the wider Asian region.”
The RMAF said that prayer flags are this year’s “key visual,” symbolizing “peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom,” which resonate in the work of the 2024 Ramon Magsaysay awardees.
“Prayer flags are more than just symbols, they carry our deepest hopes and aspirations, sending positive intentions into the world. Much like our Ramon Magsaysay Awardees spread their ideals across borders through their inspiring lives and selfless work,” said RMAF president Susanna Afan.
“The five colors of the prayer flags — blue, red, white, green, and yellow — represent hope. In the same way, the lives and work of the Ramon Magsaysay Awardees, fueled by their unwavering dedication, bring hope and inspiration, contribute to the creation of a more inclusive world.”
The award was first given in 1958 to laureates who “demonstrated the same greatness of spirit that then president Ramon Magsaysay has embodied throughout his life.” It is considered Asia’s premier prize and highest honor.
